COVID-19 Assistance Packages & Grant Support

 

The South Australian Government has announced two funds to support businesses, jobs and community organization. 

Business Hardship Grant – September 2021 for Employing and Non-Employing Businesses

This grant is being introduced for industry sectors that are significantly impacted by COVID-19 density and other trading restrictions that were introduced from the July 2021 restrictions and have NOT benefitted from other business grant support since July 2021.

Eligible, employing businesses will receive a once-off $6,000 grant to provide support towards their business as it has been impacted by the restrictions brought on by shutdowns.

Eligible, non-employing businesses will receive a once-off $2,000 grant to provide support towards their business as it has been impacted by the restrictions brought on by shutdowns.

 

To be eligible for this grant as an employer OR non-employer, you must:

Have a valid and active Australian business number (ABN) and were carrying on the operation of a business in South Australia.

Be registered for the GST.

As an employer, employees must be in South Australia and have a total Australian grouped payroll of less than $10 million in the 2019-20 financial year.

As a non-employer, you may NOT employ people in South Australia

Not be engaged in illegal activities.

As a consequence of COVID-19 restrictions between 20 July 2021 and 31 August 2021 have experienced a reduction in turnover of at least 50 per cent for a consecutive two-week period when compared to the same two-week period in 2019

COVID-19 Business Support Grant – July 2021 

This program is to supports small and medium-sized businesses that suffer a significant loss of income or have been forced to close as a result of restrictions imposed from 20 July 2021. 

Grants of $3,000 for employing businesses and $1,000 for non-employing businesses. 

To be eligible for the grant: 

  • Have experienced a turnover decline of more than 30% in the week of 20 July 2021 to Monday 26 July 2021 compared to the prior week, due to restricted trading conditions. 
  • Be located within South Australia 
  • Annual turnover of $75,000 or more in 2020-2021 or 2019-2020 
  • Be registered for GST 
  • Have a valid and active ABN 
  • For employing businesses: 
  • Must employ people in South Australia 
  • Have a payroll of less than $10 million in the 2019-020 financial year 

While you won’t have to provide your supporting information to demonstrate your loss of income for your application process, you will need to have this available in the case of an audit. COVID-19 Additional Business Support Grant 

This grant is being introduced for industry sectors that are significantly impacted by COVID-19 density and other trading restrictions that were introduced from the 28 July 2021. 

In addition to the grant above, a further $1,000 will be available for eligible businesses with a commercial premise in the Adelaide CBD. 

To be eligible for this grant: 

  • Experienced at least a 30% decline in turnover due to the restricted trading conditions over the two weeks from 28 July 2021 to 10 August 2021 compared to average fortnightly turnover in the June 2021 quarter. 
  • There is no minimum turnover test for this grant, but the businesses must be registered for GST. 
  • Evidence of this reduction in turnover must be kept for two years to assist in the case of an audit.
